Although oil production peaked in the North Sea some time ago, the area still offers promise for those with deep pockets. Further investment is made in exploration activities and methane hydrates, or fire ice, are raising hopes for continued exploration. Meanwhile, ailing fields offer the opportunity of decommissioning tasks and revenues. Ian McInnes considers the bounty ahead.
With considerable shale gas reserves, a reduction in Europe’s increasing dependence on natural gas imports may just be around the corner – if the right conditions for a safe and commercially-viable exploitation are put in place. Ian McInness considers some of the issues.
