China to announce energy consumption cap in 1H
The world’s largest energy consumer, China is expected to announce a plan to cap total energy consumption for 2015, according the Shanghai Securities Journal.
The cap would include individual targets for provinces, Wu Yin, deputy head of the National Energy Administration, was cited as saying, but he gave no further details.
Chinese media have reported the government was considering a cap of about 4.1bnt of standard coal. Last year, the country used around 3.48bnt, up 7% YoY.
The new target would imply that the government will have to rein in growth over the next four years at 17.8%.
