Suzlon Energy secures fourth GAIL (India) wind turbine order
Wind turbine maker Suzlon Energy announced it has won a fourth contract from state-owned natural gas company GAIL (India). The order consists of 11 S88-2.1MW turbines, to be installed in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and commissioned by end FY2011-12.
The project is the latest in a series that is aimed at meeting GAIL’s captive power requirement with the surplus to be sold to local power distribution companies under a long-term purchase power agreement at fixed preferential feed-in tariffs.
Commenting on the development, Tulsi R Tanti, Founder, CMD, Suzlon Group said, “We are very pleased to announce our fourth order from GAIL (India), a Navaratna PSU, that has led the way with its approach to climate change mitigation and renewable energy. This order underscores our position as a partner-of-choice for large wind investors in India. With the strength of our future development pipeline, our customized end-to-end offerings and our long-term service capabilities, we are best positioned to take advantage of the rapid growth of the Indian wind market. As we look ahead, we are very confident that we will maintain our leadership position in what is one of the most vibrant wind energy markets in the world today.”
